West Deerfield Township Supervisor Julie Morrison’s statement thanking voters for their overwhelming support in the 2009 Consolidated Elections (Deerfield Review 4-23-09) would be laughable if it wasn’t so pathetic.
The best way to measure a politician’s approval is by comparing results across two sequential election cycles. Even a Morrison supporter has to gasp at her drop from 5534 votes in 2005 to only 2987 in 2009. That’s a -46% plunge!
When one considers Morrison & Company did all they could to shield damming information from the public, it doesn’t take a math genius to imagine how low those numbers could have gone had more of the public been made aware of the facts. Unfortunately, those seeking information were “stonewalled” and had to use the “Freedom of Information Act” to gain access to public records. They were also charged over $400 for 1600 copies of the public information.
Yes, Morrison & Company’s attempt to implement “CookCounty” style politics on the NorthShore received a serious setback in the 2009 Consolidated Elections. As the astonishing 46% of Morrison’s 2005 voting base deserted her, they also rejected her attempt to “Strogerize” West Deerfield Township. Interestingly, several hundred of those voting to re-elect Morrison have already stated if they had known about her questionable behavior and ethics, they never would have supported her.
Morrison’s hapless Trustees (Rosenbacher, Levitsky, and Schwartz) fared slightly better but they also got “spanked” for their underhanded participation in their “Midnight” pay raise. This typical Stroger type of maneuver was rejected by so many voters, Rosenbacher got tossed out on his ear while Levitsky and Schwartz managed to squeeze by in their re-election bids. Once again, many voting for these characters have stated they never would have done so if only they would have known the truth of what was going on behind the doors in Morrison’s Taj Mahal (the township building).
